Which is the best web browser to use? Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera? Good choices.
Internet Explorer 6? Maybe not.
If you spend any time with your web designer you may hear them cursing like sailors when they talk about Internet Explorer 6. That’s because they have spent time lovingly crafting your website to work across all modern browsers only to be told that it doesn’t look right in IE6.
Well, we can all do our bit by changing to a more up-to-date and compliant browser and ditch Internet Explorer 6. Even Microsoft want to see the back of it. They’ve created a site called IE6 Countdown. Worth looking at, it focuses on Microsoft’s aim to get global usage down to 1%.
With the exception of certain specialized government sites and intranets, there is really no need for continued use of IE6 as a web browser. It’s time to embrace more modern browsers.
For a visual interpretation of all this check out Smashing Magazine’s cartoon The Life, Times (and death) of IE6.
Other browers which may be of intrest:
kylo browser (optimised for use on tv screens)
flock browser (a social media intergrated brower)
lunascape (offers a unique triple engine so will take plugins from most browers)
